Presentation copy inscribed "To James T. Warner from his friend the author." Warner (1807-95) was a California pioneer arriving in Los Angeles in 1831 where he opened a shop there as early as 1836. Previously, he worked for Jedidiah Smith as the clerk of a trading expedition to New Mexico. (See DAB.) A significant presentation copy of Nordhoff's fourth book. Item #20992
