Long; printed and sold by William Macrone, [1877]. 8vo, pp. [4], 244; very good in contemporary binding by Bayntun-Riviere and so signed: half terracotta morocco over cloth-covered boards, the paneled spine lettered and ornamented in gilt; the spine faded, minimal wear to extremities, the back joint just beginning to crack, and the last leaf torn along lower gutter (not affecting text). "It seems but a slight thing to call a person or a place, by this name or by that, and yet it lies at the root of all man's progress" (Introduction, p. 7). Item #25460
