First edition, 8vo, pp. xi, [5], 342; original light brown wrappers lettered in green on front cover and spine; soiled and creased, with small portions of the spine chipped away (not affecting lettering), and the joints tender and cracked; still overall good and sound, with a previous owner's penciled notations scattered throughout. A record of 6,493 items forming one of the largest institutional collections of chess books. As the collection grew, this reference was supplemented in 1974, and in 1988, it was reprinted.
