Minnesota and Dacotah in letters descriptive of a tour through the north-west in the autumn of 1856...

Washington: Robert Farnham, 1857. Second edition (printed the same year as the first, and in the same format), 12mo, pp. viii, 215, [1]; original brown blind-tooled cloth (soiled), faded gilt spine; edges and corners badly bumped and worn, small loss to spine head; contemporary signature on title page, Edward Chenery Gale's bookplate on front pastedown endpaper. A good copy. With statistical information appended at the back, including post and land offices, tables of distances, newspapers, town seats, etc. A good travel account describing settlements along his route, and his visit with the Chippewa Indians. Howes A-253 calling for a map, but there is no evidence that any map was ever in this copy; and, until recently, we had never seen a copy with the map until we found a copy of the fourth edition that had one. Was the map in the fourth edition only? Sabin 14881. Item #38235
