Brunswick [i.e. Braunschweig]: George Westermann, 1854. First edition, 16mo, pp. xvi, 504; original heavily decorated blue cloth stamped in gilt on upper cover and spine, a.e.g.; light wear, else very good. A German production through and through: inserted chromolithograph title page (by Anst. v. L. Kraatz, in Berlin), bookseller's ticket on rear pastedown for I. Bachmann, Berlin, and the preface is by Dr. L. Herrig in Berlin. Other editions appeared in Brunswick in 1857, 1863 and a sixth edition was reached by 1874. Of this edition, only 7 in OCLC (all in Germany). Elwell was also the compiler of a A New and Complete Dictionary of the English and German languages, Westermann, 1850 [et al.]. Item #38809
