Approximately 1 5/8 x 1 1/8" (41 x 28 mm.), page size 1 1/2 x 1 1/16" (38 x 22 mm.), pp. 256; 13 (of 14) engraved plates, engraved title page and additional engraved title page for the "New Testament"; publisher's red morocco, inlays of black and red morocco in center of each cover with blind-tooled cross and the initials IHS within blind-tooled sun, blind-tooled border with corner pieces of intertwined arabesques, blind-tooled spine in 3 compartments; blue endpapers; signature of "William R S" on front flyleaf; several signatures extended; some thumb-soiling; a good copy. This copy with the earliest state of the title page ("miniature" misspelled "minuiture") and with no imrint at the base of the last page. "The famous Newbery Bible, which itself is a only a copy of the miniature Bible issued by Harris a few years earlier [1771]. The engravings are of a very modest qulaity and the main claim to fame of this edition is probably that it was issued by the famous publishers of so many distinguished children's books" (Spielmann, 17).
