Anders Celsius (1701-1744) was known in his day for his astronomical skills and his studies of the aurora borealis, but he is famous today for his metereological observations and his construction of what is now the world famous Celsius thermometer, with 0 for the boiling point of water and 100 for the freezing point. After his death in 1744 the scale was reversed to its present form, but the Celsius thermometer and scale remain in daily use throughout much of the world. Item #39345
