Original oak box (142 x 172 x 150 mm.); decorations on box lid and front side in gilt, green, black, yellow, and red, a few chips to paint, else very good; paper label mounted to bottom of lid printed in orange and black with typescript ownership of Mr. R. Speer of the Donnelly Bakery Shop, Hollywood, Cal., which has been crookedly crossed out and replace in manuscript by 2 later owners. Box filled with recipes used for a bakery business, including those for breads, cakes, cookies, fried cakes, and icing; various forumlae, merchandising, and advertising cards to give ideas on how to sell more to customers. Also includes baking data, common faults, temperatures, and just about everything one needs to know in order to run a bakery, including production and operation records. These cards would be sent periodically to subscribing bakers in order to keep them updated with new recipes or trends. Lacks only 12 cards, although it is very possible this box did not get updated due to the war. With bifolium announcement from the Products Control Department of General Mills, Minneapolis.
