Third book by the esteemed professor of Sanskkrit at Yale who played an important part in bringing linguistic science into the modern era. His Life and Growth of Language (1875) was widely influential and translated into seven languages; and The Century Dictionary (1889-97), which he editied, remains a classic work of lexicography.
