London: Edward Orme, n.d., [ca. 1823]. 4to, pp. [4], 170, [2]; 110 hand-colored aquatints; contemporary full green straight-grain morocco, elaborate gilt-tooled borders, rebacked with old gilt-tooled spine neatly laid down; rubbed and worn, but sound, and the plates very clean. The text was first issued by Edward Orme in 1814. A "second edition" is dated 1819 of which this is likely a reprint. The watermarks in this copy vary from 1817 to 1823; the plates are watermarked "J Whatman / Turkey Mill." This edition not in Abbey, Travel, but see both Abbey 2 (where an undated edition is mentioned) and 3 for a lengthy discussion. As in the seond edition of 1819, the pages here are numbered (they were not in the first edition) and there is no separate title page for the supplement. An old bookseller's note on the front free endpaper of this copy identifies this as a "large paper copy." The pages here are 13" tall - larger than both copies in Abbey. Item #42611
