First edition thus, 8vo, pp. viii, [223]; this copy is extra illustrated with an engraved frontispiece of Grose's Peregrinations tipped in by Stewart and Burnet after Burnet; early owner's signature on preliminaries, small tear on lower corner of title page has old tape repair, all edges marbled; worn but sound, good enough copy in half polished calf over marbled boards with gilt lettering and rules on spine, decorated in blind. Three editions of the famous slang dictionary had appeared prior to this (1785, 1788 and 1796); this is the first to come outside editorship. Item #44424
