A good set overall. The premiere English study magazine of its time, each issue consists of Japanese and Chinese material in translation, serialized aids to classic English literature (Rasselas, A Christmas Carol) and English readers, lectures and exercises on grammatical points, puzzles, humorous and topical conversations, English idioms, the appropriate addresses to various ranks of nobility, physiognomy, and so on.
