Tokyo: Kinkoudou Henshuujo, 1894. 8vo, 30 leaves, bound in the Japanese manner, 22 half page illustrations and text illustrations throughout; blue paper covers, light wear to covers, text clean and bright. An elementary reader starting with simple phrases in Japanese syllabary such as "The dog says 'wan wan,'" and leading up to sentences with basic Chinese characters such as "foot" and "hand." Each new term is printed at the margin above the line where it appears. At the end of each small lesson is a rebus on the current topic. The illustrations are mostly of pastoral and family scenes, including a plum tree, mushroom picking, and a house fire. Item #46788
