White (fl. 1577 - 1593), was a British artist and colonist who first came to the Americas with Frobisher in 1577. He returned in 1585 with Thomas Harriot to collect and record information and the flora, fauna, and native peoples. His sympathetic portraits of the Carolina Algonquins were reproduced as engravings in de Bry's America, 1590. "His watercolour images of Native Americans in the late sixteenth century were exceptional for his era and unsurpassed as a visual record of south-eastern tribal life until the advent of photography" (ODNB).
