First edition, 4to, pp. x, [2], 310, [2]; typographgical illustrations throughout, some printed in red and green; very handsome book; fine copy in a fine dust jacket, t.e.g. "A new approach to the history, lineage, and development of our alphabet" (jacket blurb). The author was a well-known stone-cutter and calligrapher. Philip Hofer, of Harvard, said the book was "a work of genius." This copy with a presentation from Catich on the flyleaf, and a typed letter from him regarding burnishers with a long manuscript addition laid in. Item #51575
