First edition, 500 copies printed of which 50 were signed; 8vo, pp. [8], 238, [2]; original black cloth, gilt-stamped spine; the binding slightly cocked, very light dampstaining to covers, dust jacket has light wear to edges and a 2-inch closed split on spine; very good. Copies of this English edition were seized and burnt by the police as it was banned under the Obscene Publications Act. Among the offending phrases... "Bloody hell!" Another English edition was subsequently published in Paris by Henry Babou and Jack Kahane with a preface by Edward Garnett, also in 1929. Item #52386
