First authorized and first separate London edition, 4 volumes, 8vo; engraved portrait after Joshua Reynolds; contemporary full calf, gilt-decorated spine in 6 compartments, red morocco label in 1; lower half of text block of most volumes dampstained, upper joint starting on volume I, joints restored on volume IV; light rubbing and wear; all else very good. Originally published as part of the entire set (Lives and Works of the English Poets) of 68 volumes 1779-81, viz. Works 56 vols., Prefaces 10 vols.; Index, 2 vols.
