Bookplate of Allan Briggs. In the year 1779, Beattie published for the use of his class a list of Scoticisms, which today is known only in a single copy. From the advertisement: "The former edition being all given away, for none of the copies were exposed to sale, I have been desired to reprint the pamphlet, and to publish it, with additions and emendations."
