The merchant's daughter; and other tales

New York: Allen Brothers, 1869. 16mo, pp. 159, [1]; engraved frontispiece and vignette title page, 1 plate (of a possible 3, see below); original green cloth, gilt-decorated spine; corners and spine ends worn, light foxing to edges, rear flyleaves torn out, owners' signatures on free endpaper rubbed away. At least one plate is lacking, but it's difficult to tell from other sources whether or not a third mentioned is in fact the frontispiece. As an Irishwoman living in England Hall's work often touches on the Irish experience. From her biography: "What makes [Hall's] work particularly interesting is that it displays a tolerance and lack of bigotry that was unusual for its time, and that she is openly critical of government mismanagement and misrule."
