Cincinnati: Phonographic Institute, [1857]. 12mo, pp. 92, [30], 7, [1]; lithograph title page and lithographic plates of shorthand throughout; original black cloth blind- and gilt-stamped, marbled edges; last 30 pages dampstained, discoloration on lower cover, good and sound. Benn moved to Cincinnati soon after arriving in the U.S. in 1853 and worked diligently to spread his brother, Isaac's system of shorthand through the States. His manuals on Pitman shorthand became the most important and most often reprinted text on the subject in the U.S. Item #53866
