Edition limited to 127 copies, this one of 102 on Van Gelder (copy no. 95), 4to, [5] p.l., pp. 204, [4]; engraved frontispiece portrait from a painting by Jacob Huyman, signed in pencil by the engraver, T. Johnson, engraved title page, "illustrated by 86 photo-engraved reproductions of title pages; original quarter parchment over boards, gilt-stamped spine and upper cover; boards soiled, spine darkened, light overall wear; a good, sound copy. Printed at the De Vinne Press This copy inscribed "With the sincere regards of Nathl. C. Nash / May, 1908," and an ownership label of Dwight Blaney tipped over the inscription, and further provenance provided on a slip laid in stating that the book was purchased from the estate of Frank C. Brown in 1932. Also laid in is an envelope addressed to Blaney containing a number of clippings regarding The Compleat Angler, and an order form from E. P. Dutton for the John Major edition of the bibliography published in 1927. Blaney is almost certainly the Boston and Ironbound Island, Maine, painter Dwight Blaney. Item #54405
