The recto prints a letter from Post & Co. stating that they have recovered from their late fire, and "are now prepared to furnish Automatic Magneto and Electro Bells, and everything in the telephone line ... especially the Secrecy Switch Magneto, with it you can cut out right or left and have exclusive control of the wire between the parties talking..." The verso shows a large wood engraving incorporating 2 batteries, 2 microphones, a secrecy switch, and 2 Magneto Bell telephones. Alexander Graham Bell was granted a patent on the phone in 1876.
