An appeal in favor of the Erie Canal, reprinted in celebration of the successful project with a supplement. Robert Troup was a soldier of the Continental Army and Judge for the state of New York. His letter is a defense of a project that saw many detractors over the course of the decades it took to be completed, and explicitly a defense of General Elkanah Watson's position as a prime advocate for the project.
