First separate edition (originally published in the Journal of the Franklin Institute, volume X), 8vo, pp. 11, [1]; one table and 2 small illustrations in the text; original green printed wrappers. Inscribed "Phillip H. Nicklin Esq. from A. D. Bache" at the top of the front wrapper. Nicklin (1786-1842) was an American bookseller, publisher and writer, and served as a trustee at the University of Pennsylvania. Four copies in OCLC: Pisa (Italy) without wrappers; plus Harvard, Edinburgh and Utrecht. Item #55013
