A lecture on the first European push west from the North American coast, up to the Mississippi. Frederick Jackson Turner was an American historian based in Wisconsin and later Harvard. He is best known for his Frontier Thesis, which posits that the American character was deeply affected by the ever-moving frontier of its territory up until 1890. He taught many students who later went on to become prominent historians themselves, and his theories enjoyed wide acceptance for many years. His essay "The Significance of the Frontier in American History" is considered a seminal essay of American history. Item #55016
