New pictures and books. Mrs. Cleveland, Ruth and Esther, Niagara Falls, Royal Palace Stockholm...

Chicago: W. F. McLaughlin & Co., n.d., [ca. 1893]. Broadsheet circular, approx. 6" x 4", text printed in English and German on opposite sides, on orange paper; very good. The young (twenty-two) and by all accounts attractive Frances (Folsom) Cleveland took the media by storm when she married the president in the middle of his first term in 1886. A "master political stroke" (Notable American Women), it quelled rumors of Cleveland's earlier indiscretions. The younger daughter here, Esther, was born at the White House in September of 1893. Other titles offered, all juveniles, include Jack the Giant Killer, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Old Mother Hubbard and Her Dog, Bluebeard, and the last with a decidedly racist title. Not found in OCLC. Item #55593
