Includes An Historical Sketch of the Santee Mission, by William Welsh; a report on The Civilization of American Indians, by Welsh and others; as well as Hinman's Journal written at the Mission in Nebraska and Whipple's Address at the funeral of Taopi. Taopi (Wounded Man) was "one of the first converts to Christianity at the Redwood Mission on the Minnesota River, and at the time of the Sioux Uprising in 1862, was friendly to the whites, and aided in the rescue of many" (Minnesota Biographies, p. 767).
