The lady's annual register and housewife's memorandum-book for 1838

Boston: T. H. Carter, 1838. 8vo, pp. [2], 140; engraved frontispiece depicting women doing various household tasks; text illustrations, one portion of the memoranda section filled out in a neat hand, outlining a recipe for dying yarn; original pink printed paper-covered boards backed in brown cloth; some foxing, boards toned and rubbed at the extremities, some splitting of the cloth along the spine, but the textblock is sound. Practical information is interspersed with poetry and humor. There are gardening tips for each month, divided by North and South. Gilman was an author of novels and poetry, and in addition to producing this Register for many years she edited one of the first American magazines for children. BAL 6815. Item #55802
