One-page autograph note signed
1850s-'60s. Eleven lines, approx. 125 words; 6¼" x 7¾"; in ink and very legible; very good. Rev. George B. Cheever (1807-1890) was a New England reformer who vocally supported the temperance movement and abolition. In this short speech he writes, "True kindred, there can be neither peace nor prosperity for any country, nor consideration nor influence, if the liberties of any class, and the common right of humanity, are sacrificed, or unacknowledged, or left unprotected, for the sake of union."
