Kyoto: Tanaka Jihei, 1892. One volume of a four-volume set; large fukuro toji, pp. [4], [44]; 32 color woodblock illustrations, many double-page, of birds and flowers; original metallic dusted paper covers, light soiling to cover edges, prints in fine condition with bold, clean imprints. With the signature of Olive B. Sarre on inside lower cover. Sarre was the designer of Yama no Uchi in New York's Catskills mountains, a remarkable Gilded Age compound that borrowed heavily from Japanese architectural aesthetic. Sarre spent a year and a half in Japan as part of her research for the project. This is a slightly later edition of this work. The first edition (published the same year) uses western numbers on each image, where later editions such as this one uses Japanese characters. A still later edition was published by Unsodo.
