The Roman Catholic mind. Extract from my secret journal

[New York: Radio Station WHAP, 1928. Narrow pamphlet, 9" x 4", pp. [8]; printed self-wrappers, fine. A 24-stanza anti-Catholic poem that takes particular aim at Boston's "failure to resist the influence of the church." The pamphlet was sized to be mailed out to "public officials, educators, friends." John Jay Chapman was a prolific essayist, speaker, and social reformer. "His work is marked by originality and felicity of expression, and the opinion of many critics has placed him in the front rank of the American essayists of his day" (Wikipedia). While his early work is more progressive and reform-minded, after the death of his son in World War I he adopted a strong militaristic and anti-Catholic position. Item #57723
