Fourteen warrants and summonses for the town of Blackstone, Worcester County, Massachusetts

[Blackstone, Mass. 1845-1849]. 12 pro-forma warrants and summonses, completed in manuscript, plus two others in manuscript, regarding civil suits on matters of debt to the value of $20, 5 with attached receipts, all with signed statements on verso from the constable of Blackstone reporting that the summons had been served. One summons stained and torn, the rest in very good condition with mild edgewear and old folds. The warrants were all signed by Preserved Smith Thayer, a textile merchant, postmaster, and Justice of the peace in Millville, MA. The summons are made for laborers, butchers, stone cutters, yeomen, etc. One summons is for a witness. A representative text reads: "In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, you are required to attach the Goods or Estate of Jesse Darling of said Blackstone, watchman, to the value of twenty dollars, and for want thereof to take the body of the said defendant... and him safely keep, so that he may be had before me... and then there to answer to Elbridge G. Cook of said Blackstone, Butcher." Item #57878
