Manuscript sketchbook of Japanese domestic images

[Japan: n.d.]. Fukurotoji, 10.5" x 7.5", pp. [82]; likely original stab stitched paper covers, brush illustrations throughout, mostly linework but a few toned paintings and two in color, some double page spreads; occasional minor worming, one leaf and the bottom of one page excised, very good. A well-executed collection of still lifes, portraits and landscapes from the Japanese countryside, displaying dolls, household items, women at work washing and weaving, trees and gardens, and a couple of snakes. Aside from a couple of annotations, mostly to indicate color, there are only two pages of text. Likely the work of an accomplished amateur. Item #58034
