Andrews; other wood-engraved illustrations in the text throughout; original green cloth stamped in gilt on upper cover and spine; extremities worn and some fading of the spine, top of spine chipped level with text block, hinges starting, small crack in the cloth at the top of the upper joint; internally quite clean and the plates vibrant. With an early ownership inscription on the front pastedown and a rubberstamp of the same on the title page. The Rose Garden reached a twelfth edition by 1903 and was reprinted as late as 1978. Paul (1822-1905) was elected a fellow of the Linnean Society in 1875, and was the initial recipient of the Victoria medal of horticulture when it was first instituted in 1897.
