South Kingston, RI: June 5, 1770. 12½" x 8", paper toned yet sturdy; small tear near bottom left corner; very good. Signed by James Shelden (1743-1828) and his father Isaac Shelden (1716-1773), with their seals attached. Witnessed by Jeremiah Crandall and Samuel Crandall. "James Shelden and Isaac Sheldon, both of South Kingston ... are holden and do stand firmly bound and obliged unto George Babcock town treasurer of South Kingston ... in the full and just sum of two hundred pounds lawfull money of the Colony afores[aid] to be paid unto George Babcock his heirs executors or assigns to which payment well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves our heirs, executors..."
