Minéralogie appliquée description des minéraux employés dans les industries métallurgiques et manufacturières dans les constructions et dans l'ornement

Paris et Liége: Librarie Polytechnique de Noblet et Baudry, 1864. First edition, 8vo, pp. [4], ii, 476; 224 wood engravings in the text; original printed green wrappers; a little cracking and small chips along the rear joint; all else near fine. "Amédée Burat (1809-1883) very early expressed a true passion for geology, under the influence of his masters, Élie de Beaumont and Dufrénoy, when he followed their lectures at the École des mines de Paris (1830-1832). As a mining engineer, he spent first a few years of his professional life in industry (1833-1837), while devoting a part of his time to geological studies. Appointed professor at the École centrale in 1838 for teaching mineralogy, geology and mining exploitation, he spent a long part of his life there, publishing many books. Among them, his Traité de géologie appliquée, that he considered his major work, was printed in five successive editions from 1843 to 1871. His teaching and his books were unceasingly enriched by numerous contacts with the mining industry of which he was an appreciated consultant. Relentless worker, Amédée Burat left a considerable work too much ignored by the geological community" (Comité francais d'Histoire de la Géologie). Item #58485
