N.p. [Saint Paul?]: 1893. Image size 8½" x 6½". Captioned on the verso in a contemporary hand, possibly Bromley's: "#63 Group with Amherst H. Wilder his wife and daughter on the steamer City of New York in San Diego Cal. harbor 1893. Photo by Edward A. Bromley." Wilder came to Saint Paul in 1857 from Lewis, New York and joined his cousins James and Henry Burbank in their operation of mail and package stage lines, storage and wholesale groceries. Over time Wilder became involved in railroads, lumber, banking, insurance, real estate and merchandising businesses. He would become one of Saint Paul's most prominent and wealthy citizens, living in a castle-like mansion on Summit Avenue across from the Saint Paul Cathedral. Item #58512
