London: printed for John Walker, no. 44, Paternoster Row, 1794-96. 4 volumes, 8vo, pp. [2], 444, [8]; 487, [7]; 423 [7]; [2], 500, [8]; engraved title pages in each, frontispiece portrait of Peter Pindar, Esq. in volume 1; contemporary full speckled calf, gilt-decorated spines laid out in 6 compartments, morocco labels and numbering pieces in 2; joints cracked, but holding, front free endpaper excised from volume I, all volumes lightly rubbed; a good, sound set, or better. Includes 41 works by the satirist, written under the pseudonym of Peter Pindar, including Bozzy and Piozzi, a Town Ecologue, and A Congratulatory Epistle to James Boswell. Wolcot (1738-1819) trained as a doctor, took Holy Orders, dropped his ecclesial career, returned to medicine, and then went on to become one of the most effective satirists of the late 18th century.
