Mather from the author" on flyleaf. Cogswell was secretary of the American Education Society, which was devoted to training young men into missionary work. His book collects chapters on a variety of subjects, including the conversion of seamen and Jews, the distribution of scriptures and tracts, reformation of prisoners, and a chapter dedicated to the denunciation of slavery.
