New York: Dodd, Mead, and Company, 1942. 8vo, [10], 540; inserted color frontispiece and title page, plus 10 color plates by Schaeffer; original black cloth, gilt-lettered spine, dust jacket. The cloth with several rub marks along the joints and fore-edge leaving white marks; the dust jacket chipped at the corners and with a 3" break along the front joint, but no loss of lettering or illustration. Short quote from the chapter "Bulkington" in biro at the bottom of the half-title. Originally published in 1922, this edition bears the distinction of being the first edition of Moby Dick to contain color illustrations, and it is also the first edition printed in America with the English text.
