On finding a possum by the roadside

[Mountain View, Ca. Artichoke Editions, December, 1977. Edition limited to 100 copies, this no. 10 of the regular edition of 70 (there were 20 others on large paper, and 10 on Hayle Mill Linen), printed on Hayle Mill RWS, bound in linen-backed marbled boards; a prospectus is tipped in noting that the marbled paper is different for every copy of the book; a full-page relief etching and a sonnet to the deceased possum, signed by Clark; bookseller's description tipped to verso of rear free endpaper, else fine. Bookplate (with a possum) of James Mead, Curator Emeritus of Marine Mammals at the Smithsonian. The Artichoke Press began in 1975 so this is an early example. Clark was the 2012 recipient of the Oscar Lewis Award for outstanding contributions to the Book Arts from the Book Club of California.
