Small 8vo (approx. 7" x 5"), 21 leaves folded and sewn in the Japanese manner, English text with interlinear Kanji characters; illustrated throughout with approximately 40 vignette woodcuts; original yellow wrappers, pink paper label on upper cover, and preserving the original printed sleeve (i.e. fukuro) in Japanese and English. Osaka Joshi Daigaiku Library, Select Catalogue on Dutch and English Studies, F-13, and also citing the Tokyo 1866 edition (F-1) which shows it to be the first English reader printed in Japan.
