First edition, 8vo, pp. [2], 256; portrait frontispiece, 2 other portrait plates; original brown cloth stamped in gilt on upper cover and spine; spine extremities lightly rubbed, newspaper clipping mounted on rear endpaper, one other clipping mounted on linen tipped in at p. 49; a very good, sound copy. This copy with a presentation from the author on the verso of the title page: "Presented to a comrade John M. Broome 12th Ky Vols by the author J. W. Bishop." Throughout the text, on approximately 35 pages, Broome had made underlines, corrected, and amplified Bishop's text, in both pencil and red ink. Nevins I, p. 60. Item #61146
