This copy inscribed by Kaunda "To Mr. Wayne Fredericks with the kindest regards from Kenneth David Kanuda, 22nd May, 1963." Kaunda was the leader of the Northern Rhodesia's United National Independence Party which was renamed Zambia, and which he guided towards all-African rule and a free and independent nation. Kaunada served as the first President of Zambia from 1964 to 1991. He was at the forefront of the struggle for independence from British rule. Jacob Wayne Fredericks (1917–2004) was an American businessman and diplomat who served as the United States Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs from 1961 until 1967, and often acted as a liaison with African liberation groups.
