The new Industrial Trust Company building [cover title]

Providence: Industrial Trust Company, n.d., [1928]. 11" x 8½", pp. 23, [1]; illustrated throughout with a full-page map, architect sketches, floor plans, arial views, etc. Fine in original string-tied embossed wrappers. The Industrial Trust Company was founded in 1886 by Samuel P. Colt and the building was constructed in 1927-28. Local legend had it that this was the building seen in the opening credits of the Superman TV series, with George Reeves atop the building in his flowing cape. Wikipedia notes that the building is still known as the Superman Building because of its visual similarity to the headquarters of the Daily Planet newspaper. In fact, the building in the TV series is the Los Angeles City Hall. Sadly, the building, the tallest in all Rhode Island, and a beautiful Art Deco creation, has sat vacant since 2013, its fate in limbo. Item #63174
