This edition not in Palau but see Palau 331685 for the first Spanish edition of 1813. The author was Lorenzo Ignacio Thiulen, a Swedish Lutheran born in 1746, who is said to have been converted to Catholicism by Manuel Mariano Iturriaga. He learns Spanish, and comes into contact with expelled Mexican Jesuits who pass through the city in 1767 on their way to Italy and whom he joins. He renounces Lutheranism, enters the Society, becomes consultant theologian to the bishopric of Fano, and publishes writings in Italian that he himself translates into Spanish. Such is the case of this book, which appeared for the first time in Venice in 1799. The Spanish translation achieved considerable success, as evidenced by five different reissues around 1823 [and later], coinciding with the absolutist reaction of that year. Item #63465
