La Inundacion de Guanajuato y su cause verdadera

Mexico [City]: Imprenta Calle Santa Teresa num. 1, 1905. Broadsheet, approx. 11¾" x 7¾", zinc-cut illustration at the head by José Guadalupe Posada (Mexican, 1851–1913); paper toned, else near fine. On the verso another poem in 3 columns: "Noche fatal la del treinta del mes de junio pasado; tupavoroso recuerdo; quedará siempre guardado." This broadsheet contains on the recto an image of people struggling in flood waters, with town and mountainside in background. The text refers to the flood in Guanajuato, which occurred on Friday, June 30, 1905, and killed more than a hundred people. Flood waters continued the next day, causing the Chiquita Dam to break. Dozens of people were trapped in their houses or places of business. The image on the verso shows a group of people with their backs to the viewer accompanying more text, in verse, which also refers to the flood. Item #63502
