Loa dicha por Sancho Panza y Doña Cenobia. En honor de la pureza de María Santísima

Broadsheet, approx. 11¾" x 7¾", metal illustration at the head of a woman eating and a man facing her with an angry expression and raised fists, by José Guadalupe Posada (Mexican, 1851–1913); ballad in double column beneath and on verso; paper toned, stain at top and with small loss of paper at the top outer corner; all else very good. A loa is a brief theatrical piece presented as an opening for a festival or introduction to a longer play. This form became popular in Spain in the 16th century and the tradition was carried on in Latin America. They were used to keep the audience occupied while waiting for the main event to begin, and they came in many forms for different purposes. The text of the present loa indicates that it was used to commemorate the "Fiesta de Marfa y el Divina Sacramento." OCLC locates 2 copies, both in Germany. Item #63509
