白話注釋 國臺音小辭典 / Pek oa tsu sek. Kok tai im siau su tian = [A small vernacular pronouncing dictionary of Chinese and Taiwanese]

Tainan: Lan Ki Bookstore, 1947. First edition, 16mo, pp. [2], 772; lexicon in double column; text in Chinese with Mandarin pronunciation in bopomofo and Taiwanese pronunciation in Romanized characters; original front wrapper bound in; a few early leaves with ragged margins (no loss of text), occasional stains, some toning, but generally a good copy in recent burgundy buckram, gilt-stamped spine. This pronouncing dictionary was published in the brief period between Japan's relinquishing of Taiwan with its defeat in WWII, and the retreat of the Kuomintang to the island during the Chinese civil war in 1949. After 50 years of colonialization, dictionaries like this were produced to realign Taiwanese focus towards Chinese literature and culture. According to the introduction, this dictionary was preceded by a smaller project. Four copies in OCLC, Dartmouth only in the US. Item #64216
