Experimental Grist Mill near Stamford, Connecticut.
Connecticut: , n.d., [circa 1825]. Unusual American watercolor measuring approx. 12.5" x 14.5" (315 x 363mm.), several small breaks in the paper professionally repaired on verso, mild waterstain enters from top margin, a few other small minor defects, but generally a good example. Remarkably similar to a picture by John William Hill, entitled "Circular Mill, King Street, New York, 1823", another unusually-shaped mill, also in brown ink and green watercolor, which was done when Hill was twenty one, and derivative of the watercolor painting he probably learned from British trained artists, including his father, John Hill, and William G. Wall. Item #6770
